Changes for Symphony Concert 30 on 15 September 2018

Since the conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla is expecting a child in Summer, she will unfortunately not be able to perform at Lucerne Festival on 15 September. We are very pleased to announce that as her substitute we have been able to engage Omer Meir Wellber


In place of the Violin Concerto in G minor by Mieczysław Weinberg, Gidon Kremer will play the First Violin Concerto by Béla Bartók. The other works remain unchanged. The complete program is as follows:

The Israeli conductor Omer Meir Wellber (born in 1981) has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Semperoper Dresden since 2018. He has conducted numerous top ensembles around the world, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the Orchester National de Lyon, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the RAI Torino Orchestra, and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. He is a regular guest conductor at the Bavarian Staatsoper in Munich, La Fenice in Venice, and Israeli Opera. From 2008 to 2010 he was Daniel Barenboim’s assistant at the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden and at La Scala in Milan.From 2010 to 2014, Omer Meir Wellber was Music Director at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia.
