One of the most spectacular new concert halls in Asia is the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts in the South of Taiwan. After opening in mid-October, the Berliner Philharmoniker will be the first international orchestra to perform there. Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony is at the heart of the programme with its conductor Gustavo Dudamel: a work full of vehemence, exuberance and – in the famous Adagietto – poignant melancholy.
