Young Euro Classic 2019

From July 19 to August 6, 2019, Young Euro Classic, the world’s most important festival for young international orchestra musicians, celebrates its 20th anniversary. 19 youth orchestras from all over the world, led and supported by excellent conductors and soloists, perform at the Konzerthaus Berlin in the summer of 2019.
The programmatic focus of the anniversary season is Ludwig van Beethoven, considered by many the most important, eternally young creator of symphonic music. In keeping with its tradition of being slightly ahead of the curve – as expressed by its motto “Tomorrow’s musicians today” – Young Euro Classic offers a Beethoven celebration in 2019, one year ahead of his great 250th anniversary in 2020. All nine symphonies and additional works will be performed by eleven youth orchestras from all over the world – an impressive undertaking which reveals the orchestras’ ambition, self-confidence and socio-cultural sense of responsibility. The European Union Youth Orchestra presents an entire European weekend including Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, a highcarat contribution to the Beethoven Project. The appearance of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain is another, highly topical reminder of what Young Euro Classic stands for: joint and shared music-making is cultural diplomacy, enabling exchange and building bridges.
Ensembles from Chile, the Dominican Republic and Tatarstan make their festival debuts. The Israeli-Palestinian Galilee Chamber Orchestra also appears for the first time. Another debut is the National Youth Orchestra of the USA, which plays the festival’s rousing finale under Antonio Pappano, joined by the mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly
