Due to rising demand, the Berliner Festspiele's Musikfest Berlin is increasing seating capacity in the Philharmonie for some concerts. This concerns at the moment the concerts of the Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam with Daniel Harding and Renée Fleming, the London Symphony Orchestra with Sir Simon Rattle and Magdalena Kožená, the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir with John Eliot Gardiner and Ann Hallenberg.
Also invited to the Musikfest Berlin 2021are: the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées and the Collegium Vocale Gent with Philippe Herreweghe and the soloists Dorothee Mields and Krešimir Stražanac and the French orchestra Les Siècles with François-Xavier Roth, who will perform together with the Rundfunkchor Berlin and the violinist Isabelle Faust. In addition to the vocal soloists Renée Fleming, Magdalena Kožená, Ann Hallenberg and Anna Prohaska, the festival will also feature instrumental soloists Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Nicolas Altstaedt, Martha Argerich, Patricia Kopatchinskaya, Tamara Stefanovich, Christian Tetzlaff and many others. The international guests will join the Berlin orchestras, choirs and soloists to open the concert season in the capital. The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra will perform two concert programmes, as will the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the choirs and orchestras of the ROC Berlin, the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
On 28 August, the Inaugural Concert of the Bundesjugendchor will take place. The festival will officially open on Monday, 30 August with the world premiere of the new work "A House of Call. My Imaginary Notebook" by Heiner Goebbels by the Ensemble Modern Orchestra conducted by Vimbayi Kaziboni.
The international orchestra festival is organized by the Berliner Festspiele in cooperation with the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation from 28 August to 20 September and takes place in the Philharmonie Berlin, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the big broadcasting hall of the rbb. Numerous concerts will be streamed live in the Berliner Philharmoniker'sDigital Concert Hall and will then be available a short time later on Berliner Festspiele on Demand. The Musikfest Berlin will also be available on the radio: eleven concerts on Deutschlandfunk Kultur and one concert on rbb Kultur.
For the concerts of the Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam (31.08.), the English Baroque Soloists (03.09.) and the London Symphony Orchestra (07.09.) the previous capacity of nearly 1200 seats will be increased up to 2000 seats. The wearing of an FFP2 mask is required during the entire stay in the building as well as during the concert. Only negatively tested, fully vaccinated or recovered persons will be admitted to our events.
