Krystian Zimerman returns with Schubert!

"Schubert was ill, yes, but he was still in very good shape and filled with a wonderful sense of humour when he wrote what proved to be his final sonatas. I am sure he was looking ahead."

Krystian Zimerman was drawn to the experimental nature of Schubert’s late sonatas, visionary works by a man burdened by ill health but not limited by it. Recorded at the Kashiwazaki City Performing Arts Centre in Japan in January 2016, we are very excited to present Krystian Zimerman’s first solo album on DG for over twenty-five years, in which he interprets Schubert’s last major compositions for the piano before he died, aged only thirty-one - the Piano Sonatas Nos. 20 in A major D959 and 21 in B flat major D960
