Dublin Song Series

Curated by Dearbhla Collins, the Dublin Song Series returns with a series of three afternoon recitals featuring leading young singers from Ireland and Germany. On Sunday 8th April at 3pm, celebrated Irish mezzo-soprano Gemma Ní Bhriain, accompanied by Brazilian pianist Hélio Vida perform a programme of Mahler, Schubert, Bizet, Viardot and Elgar. This is followed by a recital on 29th April at 3pm with renowned German soprano Juliane Banse accompanied by Dearbhla Collins to perform German lieder and French chanson with works by Berg, Schubert, Fauré and Korngold. The final concert in the series sees rising German baritone Benjamin Appl joins Dearbhla Collins for a performance of the greatest of all songs cycles, Schubert’s Die WinterreiseWinterreise, meaning Winter Journey, is a song cycle based on a setting of 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller and is the second of Schubert's two great song cycles based on Müller's poems, the earlier being Die Schöne Müllerin (D. 795, Op. 25, 1823). Full details available here

On two consecutive Sundays in June, the 17th and 24th, Conor Biggs and Michel Stas continue their epic Schubertreise series at the NCH when they perform many of the late songs including those otherwise referred to as “Schwanengesang” meaning Swan Song. The journey, which started in 2013 sees Irish bass Conor Biggs and Belgian pianist Michel Stas perform 577 Lieder in over 39 recitals over a ten year period making this one of the most ambitious classical music projects undertaken by one singer and pianist. Full details available here
