After 18 months since our last festival, we are delighted to announce that the London Handel Festival will return with a celebration of live performances this autumn. A festival of Handel, performed at venues across London.

The festival will run from 29th September - 24th October and we have a fantastic array of concerts and performances based on the theme, ‘Handel and the Grand Tour’ exploring Handel’s early years in Germany and Italy.

Opening this festival is a recital by Morgan Pearse and Jessica Cale, two finalists from the 2020 Handel Singing Competition (29 September). Lucy Crowe and David Bates perform a programme of nine German arias with La Nuova Musica (12 October) followed by a performance of Handel’s Samson by The English Concert and Harry Bicket with soloists Stuart Jackson, Sophie Bevan and Matthew Brook (13 October).

Laurence Cummings will lead the London Handel Orchestra in a Concerto Grossi programme (14 October) and Opera Settecento bring their programme Arias for Annibale ‘Ballino’ Pio Gabri with Jorge Navarro Colorado and Leo Duarte (15 October).

We are also excited to present concerts beyond St George’s Hanover Square, one being a performance by Southbank Sinfonia and Adrian Butterfield at St Johns’ Smiths Square (8 October) and a recital by two Handel Singing Competition prize-winners Jerome Knox (2020 winner) and Ruairi Bowen (2020 finalist)at the Foundling Museum as part of this year’s Bloomsbury Festival (24 October). Tickets for these concerts will be available through St John's Smiths Square's website and the Bloomsbury Festival's.

Finally, we are delighted that we are able to run our renowned Handel Singing Competition this year with the Semi-final (1 October) and Final (20 October) both taking place at St George’s Hanover Square.

Messiah Reimagined

Sing with us!

Following the resounding success of our MessiahReimagined performances on 3 December 2020 and 5 April 2021, we are thrilled to be performing Handel’s masterpiece once again presenting live movements with soloists and the London Orchestra, integrated with pre-recorded choruses by our partner choirs and special all comers ‘Sing At Home’ Chorus.

Our next Messiah Reimagined performance will be the opening night concert for the St John’s Smiths Square Christmas Festival on 10 December this year.

We are actively looking for enthusiastic amateur singers to join our 'Sing at Home' chorus for 10 December.   You will be asked to prepare and record three choruses from Messiah – ‘And the glory’, ‘Worthy is the Lamb’ and the magnificent ‘Hallelujah!’ chorus.  You will receive expert tuition from our Musical Director, Laurence Cummings, and your recording will be combined with the videos from the other members to create a professionally produced video, to be relayed live as part of the performance in December.  Please join us! Full details of how you can take part can be found via our website.
